Cross Design Cutting Board

October 2025
Cutting board with cross design made out of maple and sapele. The following process was used:
Four square (jointer, planar, table saw) and cut (table saw) 4 pieces maple.
Measure and cut (table saw) two 60 degrees cuts into each piece for insert.
Measure and cut (band saw) 2 pieces of sapele for each maple.
Use sapele and remaining maple cutouts to reglue pattern of 4 diagonals (wood glue + parallel bar clamps).
Plane glue up to flatten (planar) and repeat steps 3-4 in the opposite direction to achieve X pattern.
Cut (crosscut sled + table saw) glued boards and glue with end grain face up to achieve pattern (wood glue + parallel bar clamps).
Route inset handles (round nose bit + hand router), dremel and sand any remaining burn marks.
Sand (drum + random orbital sander) and finish board. (80 -> 320 grit, food safe mineral oil finish)
